Ex KNILM PK-ALT. Evacuated to Australia from Indonesia in March 1942 to escape the advancing Japanese army. Leased to the USAAF with the temporary serial 11941 and the radio callsign VHCXD. Later allocated an official serial as C-47H 44-03228. Crashed on approach to Bamaga on May 5, 1945 while transporting fresh meat to Port Morseby. The two Australian pilots and the two American passengers killed. Wreckage remains where it came down about 2½km from the end of Rwy 13. Photo by: Ken Morris
