This Dakota was delivered to the RAF as KN564 in May 1945. Ten years later she was delivered to the Royal Rhodesian Air Force as SR157, later RRAF708. With the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland was dissolved in 1963, the Dakotas and Pembrokes of the RRAF were transferred to the Northern Rhodesia Air Wing which became the Zambia Air Force after independence. The story on how the Zambia Air Force received the Dakotas and Pembrokes dates back to the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland and its break up in late 1963 when Nyasaland became Malawi, Northern Rhodesia became Zambia, and Southern Rhodesia became Rhodesia. The ZAF inherited four Dakotas and two Pembrokes from the Federal air force, the Royal Rhodesian Air Force. The Alouettes and Hunters remained south of the Zambezi in Rhodesia.
