This 1-11 was originally delivered to BEA in March 1969, incorporated into British Airways in April 1974 and wfu in September 1992. It joined European Aviation in August 1993, flying on lease for Air Bristol, AB Shannon and AB Airlines before transferring over to European Aircharter in July 1997. Lease periods followed with Euroscot Express and Fly European (Sweden) before returning to European Aircharter and acquiring this Minardi F1 scheme in April 2001. The frame was wfu in February 2002 and stored at Bournemouth (EGHH) but is now preserved at EGFF as an airport fire fighters' training aid.

This photo was taken from outside the airport fence, in the days when this was still possible at Heathrow. Traces of BEA signage can still be seen on the hangars, which have since been demolished.

Registration cancelled on 17 December 2004 as permanently withdrawn from use, and the fuselage used for cabin training.

Joint venture!

Operated for many airlines during its lifespan, this particular day it was operated by European Aviation for British Airways on the Heathrow-Gothenburg route.

Still in the livery of AB Shannon Airlines. Formally known as Air Belfast and Air Bristol with crew bases in Stansted, Bristol and Belfast, the airline opened a base in Shannon and marketed itself as AB Shannon Airlines from Dec 95 to Dec 96. When a new base was opened at London Gatwick they re-branded simply as AB Airlines. The airline ceased operations in Aug 1999.

Both Heathrow and Gatwick were closed by fog this day. Diversions to Manchester visible in this image include Boeing 747's of Pan Am, TWA and BOAC; two Super VC-10s of BOAC; 707 of British Caledonian; a DC-10 of Laker Airways and an Alitalia DC-9-32. G-AVMT of BEA is at the centre right.
