retired 2016 - now resting on poles at Chena Hot Springs

Retired by Everts Air Cargo in 2016, this aircraft made its final flight from Fairbanks to Chena Hot Springs Airport on October 2, 2016. Three large steel pylons were erected during the summer of 2018 and the aircraft was hoisted in place atop them. I asked some folks working at the resort what the plans were for the aircraft and was told that it might be used for a zip line or outfitted as a cocktail lounge. Also of note, this aircraft was the last Northern Air Cargo DC-6 type aircraft to be retired in September 2008.

If they make it into a cocktail lounge, for sure they're going to have to install an elevator!

A classic Anchorage sight with a Northern Air Cargo DC 6 departing from Runway 07R, in the background you can see a Desert Air DC 3 and the based ex-USAF C133 CargoMaster which very rarely takes to the air.

At the time of this photo, Northern Air Cargo's once very impressive DC-6 fleet was slowly being phased out by NAC's new owners, and was already down to five flyable aircraft. Only four of them saw fairly frequent use, one of which was this N6174C (ex C-GBYN, N1281, N402US, N34959). It was acquired by them in June 2002, and eventually withdrawn from use in Sep 2008. A little over a year later this oldie was bought by Everts Air Cargo, and was still in use with them by 2016.
