Aircraft badly damaged here in Amsterdam on 1 February 1958 as the captain overruled the co-pilot's decision to abort approach for Rwy 19. Eventually rebuilt, apparently as a freighter. Later used on Biafran Airlift. As VR-BCT, it crashed at Abidjan, Ivory Coast in 1970 during a ferry flight to Liverpool on three engines. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

This was the first Boeing 747 delivered to any airline, the first of the type in service. Its name was changed several times and here it is seen as Clipper Washington. I took an unauthorised day off school on the second day of its service into the UK many years before taking this photograph to see it. Boy, did I get in trouble!!
