This aircraft was delivered to Swissair in December 1973 and served with them until sold to JAT Yugoslav Airlines as YU-AMC in May 1988. It was re-registered VP-BMP when acquired by Electra Aviation Leasing in January 1993, but sold in July 1995 to Northwest as N228NW. In December 2002 it was bought by Charlotte Aircraft Corp for parting out, re-registered N228PR and ferried to their facility at Laurinburg-Maxton Airport, NC., where, at the time of posting, its stripped hulk still remains and can be seen on Google Earth imagery date November 2023.

First flight at Long Beach August 12th 1980, delivered new to SR September 12th 1980 as HB-INC named "Thurgau", and it became the very first MD-80 to go into airline service. Used by Swissair until March 1996, the final years it was remaed to "Lugano". 1996 to SAS as SE-DMX for four years until July 2000. Last operator was Aero Republica as HK-4265. 2007 wfu and stored at Cali, Columbia. Broken up in 2009

Delivered to Swissair as HB-IFM in 1968. To Texas International Airlines as N531TX in 1980 who merged into Continental Airlines in 1982. Reregistered as N17531 in 1991. To Linea Aeropostal Venezolana as YV-48C in 2000. Reregistered as YV142T in 2006. Withdrawn from use at Caracas in 2007 and scrapped.

All aircraft in this picture are no longer flying with Swiss Air Lines. All MD-11s (in the picture behind HB-IWD are HB-IWO, HB-IWB, HB-IWH and HB-IWL) as well as the E145, the Saab 2000, the RJ100 and the MD-83 have not been in service for some time. Taken from my duty office at the time.
