MV239 nearing the end of an extensive restoration to flight for Col Pay which was led by John Delayney and which involved extensive re-skinning of the fuselage and wings plus fitting a Merlin 68A (ex Avro Lincoln) and new propeller blades, together with an overhaul of all internal systems. It was flown again on 29 December 1985 as A54-758 (VH-HET).

First flown on 19/01/43, this H.F Mk VIII with serial numbers JF294/3885 was shipped to North Africa and taken on charge by the Middle East Allied Air Command in Dec. 1943. Flown non-stop from Cairo to Cape Town in 1944 and allocated to 11th OTU, SAAF with new serial no. 5001. Transferred to 7 wing at AFS, Waterkloof, in Oct 45. SOC and offered to museum Dec 48. Displayed in standard high altitude day fighter scheme.
