To NAS Pensacola for restoration in 2022 then preserved at the General Daniel "Chappie" James Memorial Plaza at the foot of the new bridge across Pensacola Bay at Pensacola, FL.

This is in fact NF-4C 63-7654 which on retirement from its test career at Edwards was placed on display in Gallatin, TN in its white/red colours. It has been prepared at Pensacola with the help of Navy museum staff as 63-7499 which was w/o in 1967 and will be installed as a monument to the 8th TFW's commander on the General "Chappie" James, Jr. Memorial Plaza at the north end of the Pensacola Bay Bridge

the first production F-4C

Delivered in 1963. To the Air Force Systems Command (AFSC) and converted to an NF-4C test aircraft in 1966. Preserved at Tyndall AFB, FL from 1991.

This F-4C belonged to the oldest Phantoms at Edwards at the time of the picture. The beast was retired on 4 April 1991 to AMARC and received inventory code FP0646 . It left the storage depot in June 2000 and was probably scrapped.

This is actually NF-4C 63-7654 painted as F-4C 63-7499. This a/c has been restored to represent an F-4C from the 433 TFS, 8 TFW when based in Thailand. This a/c will be on display at the General "Chappie" James, Jr. Memorial Plaza at the north end of the new Pensacola Bay Bridge. General James was the Vice Wing Commander of the 8th Fighter Wing in the mid 1960s, flying 78 combat missions over North Vietnam. The National Naval Aviation Museum provided work space and other assistance for the a/c during its restoration.

This NF-4C had been on display for many years at American Legion Post 17 in Gallatin, TN. It was relocated to Pensacola, FL., arriving on 22 April 2022. Since this photo was taken it has been restored and repainted to represent an F-4C flown by General "Chappie" James, Jr. in Vietnam. This a/c will be on display at the General "Chappie" James, Jr. Memorial Plaza which will be located at the north end of the new Pensacola Bay bridge currently under construction. The new bridge is also to be named in honor of General James.

This a/c was the first F-4C produced, and spent its active service life being used as a test a/c at both Edwards AFB, CA. and Eglin AFB, FL. It is currently on display at the Edwards AFB Air Force Flight Test Center Air Park. Slide taken by Mr. T. Durham.

Unmarked Phantom of the 6512th Test Squadron.

Probably a mid to late 1970s photo of the first F-4C built for the USAF, with 3246th TW at Eglin AFB. It later transferred to Edwards to serve with the 6510th TW before it was wfu and preserved there.

One of Edwards' oldest Phantoms shoved to the back lot behind the hangars during the Edwards annual Open House in 1986.

Making an approach but not landing for the 1988 show at George was 'LEHI 13', the first F-4C built for the Air Force. It was nice to see "The Elder" in the air as it made a couple approaches and then headed for Edwards.

A test F-4C (designated as NF-4C) at the massive platform of Edwards AFB (CA). In these day's countless F-4s in all variants could be found here. Check the large pitot tube of this old Phantom. The 6512th Test Squadron under command of the 6510th Test Wing operated at that time with A/YA-7D, VA-7F, A-7K, NA/OA-37B, NF-4C/D/E, YF-4E, NRF-4C, F-15A/B/C/D/E, F-111A, F-111D, FB-111A (later, F-111G), UH-1N, O-2A, T-37B, T-38A, AT-38B, T-38C, and UV-18 (haha!) in all kinds of test missions. The F-4s were eventally pashed out in 1992. The squadron is currently known as 4445th Flight Test Squadron.
