In September 1976, the first of sixteen OV-10F COIN aircraft were delivered to SkU.3. Initially serialled in the S-1.. range, they were frequently used in the former Portuguese East Timor from 1977 (together with the A-4E and F-5E) to deal with continued opposition to the occupation which resulted in Timor becoming an Indonesian province. The first F-16s were delivered in December 1989 and replaced the OV-10s in SkU.3, the Broncos then being used to reactivate SkU.1. After accidents in 2005 and 2007, the type was grounded.

The Nu-200 was an Indonesian design for a simple COIN/ground support aircraft first flown in August 1954. According to the plate with the aircraft, three were built, but most sources refer only to this prototype (which may have used the Australian Wackett Trainer as its basis) and a single example of the Nu-225 development which was grounded in 1967. The Nu-200 was placed on display in 2017.

In September 1980, the first Hawk T.53s were delivered to Wing Pendidikan 1 and were operated next to the venerable old L-29s, initially using the LL-53.. serial range, later changed to TT. In 1991, BAe and Indonesian Aerospace (IPTN) signed an agreement for collaborative production of the Hawk and more orders were anticipated, but exports were eventually blocked due to concerns over Indonesian human rights, particularly in East Timor. However in June 1993, the TNI-AU successfully ordered eight Hawk Mk.109s and 16 Mk.209s from BAe, supplemented by 16 additional Mk.209s in 1996

A special exhibit. One of 26 Badgers supplied during the period of co-operation with the USSR from 1961, serving SkU.41 and 42 at Iswahjudi AB, Madiun until the end of the 1960s when relations with Russia broke down and parts became embargoed. They were active during the Indonesian confrontation with Malaysia, flying sorties into Malaysian airspace near Singapore. Of the 26, 12 were the Tu-16KS-1B variant which was equipped to carry two Kennel air-to-surface missiles on underwing pylons as displayed here. Unfortunately it is impossible to photograph it satisfactorily under the protective roof.

First flying in 1995, the N250 was Indonesia's first indigenous effort to gain a foothold in the market for regional turboprops, but the project fell victim to the financial crisis affecting Asia in the late 1990s and only two were built. There had even been talk about production lines being established in the UK and USA. In the 2010s a cheaper and simplified development to be known as the R-80 was mooted, an MoU being signed with Leonardo, but it remains to be seen whether this proceeds. PK-XNG is the N250 prototype, placed on display here in 2020

A real star of the collection for me, one of 21 Czech-built Il-14s that were part of a large number of aircraft supplied by Czechoslovakia to support a re-equipment programme begun in 1958. Built in some quantity in Indonesia by Lipnur, a predecessor of IPTN, the Wilga (known locally as Gelatik) was used by the Air Force's agricultural unit, the Satuan Udara Pertanian after formation in 1961. Their first base was Kemayoran Airport, Jakarta. The PZL-104s were supplemented by the PC-6 in 1977 and later by Cessnas. The military-backed Federasi Aerosport Indonesia also flew the type. This one has been on show since 1984
