Built at Hawarden, XK637 was delivered to the RAF November 27th 1956. Laterly serving with 4 FTS at Valley until replaced by the Gnat T1 in September 1963. It became one of 67 Vampire T11 sold back to Hawker Siddeley between 1963 and 1969 for potential refurbish/modification and future sales. The aircraft were stored at Woodford and Hawarden. Most of these Vampire T11 were eventually disposed of to museums, technical colleges, HSA Apprentice training schools and Air Training Corps Squadrons. XK637 was donated to 1855 Squadron Royton ATC.

Royton Air Training Corps (1855 Squadron) acquired this Meteor NF(T)14 after the type was retired from 1 Air Navigational School. From the 100 Meteor NF14 built, 14 were converted for use in training RAF Navigators. Initially at RAF Thorney Island with 2 ANS from June 1959 to early 1962, then moving to RAF Stradishall as 1 ANS until replaced by Dominie T1 in late 1965. WS726 was allocated maintenance serial 7960M in June 1967.
