The prototype Vimy after modification with Samson engines. The work was done at RAF Joyce Green. This aerodrome had canvas hangars like that in the photo and it is assumed the photo was taken at Joyce Green. Vickers consolidated its aircraft manufacturing at Brooklands after World War I. B9952 was allocated the registration G-EAAR but does not appear to have been painted on the aircraft. The registration was cancelled in May 1920. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

Experimental fighter. Its poor handling saw it rejected for service. B1484 aircraft is sometimes described as the prototype that crashed on August 17, 1917 but other sources say that aircraft had no serial and B1484 was the first production model. It had three guns, not two as fitted to the prototype. Two others built. Location of the photo is not certain but believed to be Joyce Green (named for a farm) where Vickers had its factory. B1484 also flown from Biggin Hill and Martlesham Heath. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada
