The first Botha seen here devoid of markings save for its serial. It would subsequently receive the standard dark green/dark earth camouflage and roundels. After its operational life it became a ground instruction aircraft with maintenance serial 2217M. The Botha saw little operational service and was quickly allocated to training roles. It suffered a high accident rate and was unpopular with air crew. Despite this, 580 were built. Most were scrapped in 1943. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

Henry Segrave was killed in his record speedboat on Lake Windermere on 13 June 1930, just before the first flight of his advanced touring aircraft - see other photo. G-AAXP was painted red by the time of its unsuccessful participation in the 1930 King's Cup race in July. Photo from: Dan Shumaker collection

Twenty Kangaroos were built with about half becoming airliners after World War I. B9974 does not appear to have been of them. The pristine condition of the aircraft means the photo was probably taken at Brough which was the site of the Blackburn factory. This cannot be confirmed. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada
