This aircraft is preserved at the RAF Museum. The museum's records show air-to-air photos were taken on August 16, 1942 and that is what has been used here. The RAF acquired the aircraft when it made a wheels-up landing at Manston on November 27, 1940, after being shot up in an encounter with a Spitfire. 4101 was repaired using parts from other crashed Bf109s. Flew again February 21, 1941 The canopy was removed to allow a tall Rolls-Royce pilot to fly it and was then mislaid. It was flown without a canopy after that. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

Written off in a crash at Wildenrath on 23 April 1971 and later used by Rolls-Royce as a static engine test bed for the P1154, a proposed supersonic variant of the Harrier. Used for tests between 1983 and 1986 before the project was cancelled. Placed with the Bristol Aero Collection at Kemble until their closure in 2012 and subsequently moved to The Helicopter Museum where it was stored until being moved again, to the Hucknall Flight Test Museum, in January 2020.
