To Interocean Airways as C9-ATS in 1991, Trans Lloyd Air Cargo as EL-AWX in 1997 and Phoebus Apollo as C9-ATS in 1999. Reregistered as ZS-PAJ in 2000. Donated to the South African Airways Museum in 2006.

Delivered to South African Airways as ZS-SPC in 1976. Leased to Air Mauritius as 3B-NAG in 1984 and returned to South African Airways in 1994. Preserved with the South African Airways Museum at Rand from 2006.

Delivered to the USAF in October 1952 as C-118A 51-3826. Later converted to VC-118A. To the US Department of Agriculture in August 1975 as N203GB. Exproted to Jamaica in June 1982 and became 6Y-JKM. To Lineas Aereas Mayas in August 1982 as TG-SAS. In December 1989 the aircraft was reregistered N54G (DC-6A). To 9Q-CGZ between April 1991 and 1999. The aircraft fled Congo due to fighting and arrived at Rand without documentation, it was subsequently grounded by the SA CAA. The '5H-264'is fake and was applied for the filming of a movie. Moved to the museum in April 2009.

Delivered to the South African Air Force in November 1940 as 1372. To South Afican Airways in February 1946 as ZS-ASN. Converted to an aerial survey aircraft around 1955 and used for survey work throughout Africa until it was withdrawn from service in February 1973. To the museum in December 1973, where restoration started in 1974.

A visit to Johannesburg isn't complete without going to Rand airport and the aviation museum that is next to it. On our last day of the trip, we we able to go to the museum and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. Just walking around amongst the DC-4, DC-6, B742, B747SP (and others) is so cool. We were able to go into this old DC-6 and also had a look into the cockpit. The old-school vibe will hit you when you walk into the aircraft, but it's even greater once you get up front.

"The Flying Dutchman" in what probably is the final resting place for this bird. It has quite some history behind it, also having flown for the DDA back in The Netherlands and the "-DDS" can still be seen above the right cockpit window, as this aircraft used to be the PH-DDS. Right now, the stabilizer is totally shot up, holes everywhere and a bit of a sad sight.

We were very fortunate to be able to look inside this aircraft, as it is normally only open for 1 day a year. It has always been a wish of mine to see the inside of an SP and you can imagine it made me very happy when I realized we would be going inside. The aircraft was still in great condition and we could walk around freely, taking as many photos as we wanted. Of course the flight deck could not be skipped.

Making a quick stop at the aviation museum at Rand. Major eyecatcher is this 747SP from South African. Standing in the trunk of the rental car, we could just about peek over the fence with the cameras to take some photos. -SPC was withdrawn from use in October 2003 and ferried to Rand on September 30, 2006.

9Q-CGZ painted on one side, as the last actual registration, and large marking 5H-264 painted on for a movie a long time ago.

Lockheed Lodestar in the South African Airways museum at Rand Airport

Originally delivered to South African Airways in march 1946 as ZS-AUA. Now parked in the compound of the airlines'museum at Rand. A Dutch team is working on getting this DC-4 back to the Netherlands.

Has been parked in the SAA Museum compound between two 747s since late 2006, with a false 5H- reg on the other side. Had been stored at Rand since 1997
