First registered 19.4.29 as G-AAGL to the Cierva Autogyro Co Ltd., London (aircraft actually based at Hamble, Hampshire). G-AAGL was one of the original three prototypes, powered by an 80 hp Armstrong Siddeley Genet radial piston engine. Built at Hamble by Avro, as a contractor - hence referred to in A.V. Roe production records as an "Avro 620". Written off (damaged beyond repair) 21.9.29 when caught by a gust of wind and blown backwards, cartwheeling, fortunately ending up on its undercarriage, the pilot, Mr A. H. C. Rowson, Cierva's test pilot, was unharmed. Credit W K Kilsby

Short-lived entry to the NZ register after it was destroyed by high winds at Wanganui on April 17, 1931. The aircraft was assembled at Wigram and test flown there. This RNZAF photo likely dates from then. Photo from: RNZAF/Air Force Museum of New Zealand
