My very first encounter with an operational MiG! This was at a time when East Germany was still staunchly pro-Soviet, although the first cracks had started to appear. This resulted in my invitation to a very low-key open day at Peenemunde where Jagdgeschwader 9 was based at the former Nazi rocket testing ground where the V1 and V2 were developed.

It was Aeroflot-Kazakstan until May 1993 when it transfered to Aeroflot proper. However, it remained in a sort of hybrid livery for a while.

Delivered to El Al in 06/61 as 4X-ATB. A terrorist hijacking incident took place on board on September 6, 1970, but the aircraft was not badly damaged and continued to serve with El Al and later Arkia until 1985. It was returned to Boeing for the KC-135 conversion program, but Boeing chose to donate the aircraft to Berlin's Technikmuseum in honor of the city's 750th anniversary in 1987. Originally placed on public display in Lufthansa colors with the fake registration "D-ABOC," the aircraft was moved to a remote corner of Tegel airport around 2000 to serve as a fire trainer. Left derelict, it was scrapped in May 2021.

Delivered to Cretan just 2 days earlier, it had patches of paint (rather than a complete fuselage repaint) applied to remove the Adria titles, hence why it looked a mess! Returned to Adria in November 1994.
