The Attacker was the FAA's first jet fighter but suffered from deficiencies that led to it quickly being superseded, the main problem being that the tail wheel undercarriage made it difficult to land on aircraft carriers. This is the only surviving example and was built at South Marston factory in 1951. It served with 702 and 736 Naval Squadrons but was then displayed on a pole at RNAS Abbotsinch before being saved by the FAA Museum in 1961.

This aircraft was TOC by the FAA in 1952 and served until being placed in storage at Kemble during 1966. It has been part of the FAA Museum's collection since 1971 and has been stored as part of the Reserve Collection at Cobham Hall since 1999. It is presently undergoing restoration, hence the fuel tank on the floor and the gaping hole behind the cockpit.

First time for me to see an Albacore so this was probably the hightlight from my visit to the FAA Museum's Reserve Collection at Cobham Hall. This is the only surviving example but is actually a beautifully restored composite of two aircraft that were wrecked in 1941, N4172 & N4389. The former crashed in 1941 at A'Mhoine, Whiten Head, Sutherland and the latter was shot down near Reinøya whilst taking part in the raid on Kirkenes
