When the Lynx entered service with the Dutch navy codes were applied. But when many changes occurred these were omitted from the early nineties. This is one of the last to wear a tail code.

The Hansa-Brandenburg W.12 was a 1917 two-seat floatplane fighter with an unusual downward-pointing rudder. Following an emergency landing by a German W.12 in neutral Dutch waters, the type was licence-built by the Van Berkel company in Rotterdam as the W-A. This replica was added to the Aviodrome collection in 2017.

The Trompenburg company from Amsterdam, maker of the Spyker cars, started building aircraft in 1915. Its Spyker V.1 and V.3 fighters were unsuccesful, but the V.2 trainer was produced in quantity for the Dutch army and navy. This replica has an original Thullin engine and propeller, but is a reworked Sopwith Pup replica. No national markings were worn on the fuselage by the navy's early aircraft, but the early Dutch 'orange meatball' marking is just visible on the lower wing.

The last Do 24K, or 'X-boat', in Dutch service, X-24 was based in Australia in 1942-43 and used by the Netherlands secret service for flights into Dutch colonial outposts not occupied by the Japanese. Note that this is not the real X-24, it is in fact one of the German Do 24Ts given to Spain in 1944, having different engines and guns. It last operated with them as HD.5-1. It is also widely quoted as c/n 5294, but that is its fuselage number. Its actual Dornier Werknummer is 3387.

In bygone days, the Dutch navy had its own Harvard trainers, which were given the UT-6 designation. This airframe actually remained in air force service as B-103.

Very interesting piece of eyecandy as you move between hangars at the RAF Museum Cosford - one of only three aircraft now exhibited outside.

Aviodrome's other S-2, 151, is in better condition but at least this one is wearing proper colours. Fokker S.11s in the background.
