Taken on strength by the USMC in 1961 as an HUS-1 just before resignation as UH-34D next year and deployed aboard USS Guadalcanal in 1964 with HMM-261. Saw service in Vietnam in 1965/66 and entered the museum in 1973. In 1990 it was painted orange as HUS-1L BuNo 144657 'XO-657', one of four modified for operations by VX-6 in Antarctica and setting a record with a 450-mile flight in 1957. By 1998 repainted in standard USMC colours to represent the Ugly Angels of HMM-362, which in 1962 was the first Marine helicopter squadron to deploy to Vietnam

Taken on strength by the USN as an F3D-2 around 1951. Transferred to USMC and possibly saw service in Korea. Redesigned EF-10B in 1962. The Skyknight was the only Korean War jet fighter that also flew in Vietnam. As one of the last three Skyknights flying, operated by Raytheon for tests from 1968 at Holloman AFB, NM with US Army markings and retired to the museum by 1990. Painted in VMF(N)-513 marks as '12 7/8' which had replaced F-3D-2 '13', supposedly for better luck after the loss in Korea of another with that code

Like so many of the aircraft in the outdoor storage area, this Herc's paintwork is suffering badly from weathering. While on loan to the Naval Air Test Center from VR-1, in October and November 1963 it made history by making 21 full-stop landings and unassisted take-offs on the USS Forrestal, so becoming the largest and heaviest aircraft to land on a carrier. At the time it was marked 'Look Ma, No Hook'. Transferred to the USMC at the end of 1963. Much later, saw action in Operations Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom

This diminutive, foldable (!) helicopter was designed to be dropped over an ennemy zone, to be used by downed crewmembers to fly back to friendly positions. Even if it could fly properly, there were too many problems to overcome and the type never entered production.

On static display at Spirit of St. Louis Air Show 2024. The aircraft is assigned to VMFA-323, which traces its origin to VMF-323 "Death Rattlers" that was commissioned on 1 Aug 1943 at MCAS Cherry Point. The unit was involved in intense fighting across the Pacific in WW2, producing several aces. VMFA-323 turned in its F-4 Phantoms in 1982 to transition to the F/A-18A Hornet. In 1993 the squadron started to be equipped with the F/A-18C. VMFA-323 was the first USMC Hornet unit to embark aboard CV-43 USS Coral Sea in 1985 and the last such to fly off CVN-68 USS Nimitz in 2021.
