The Grumman SF was a reconnaissance variant of the FF 'Fifi', little different from the two-seat fighter. The FF and SF were both retired from first-line US Navy squadrons by the end of 1936 and allocated to Naval Air Reserve units. On the left is BuNo 9471. This Curtiss A-1 Triad replica was one of two constructed in San Diego in 1961 for the 50th Anniversary of Naval Aviation. This one is a non flying exact replica, using the same materials as the original A-1 including an original Curtiss 75 HP V-8 engine. The other was a flying replica, which had some modifications for safety reasons, as it was flown in the 1961 anniversary airshow over San Diego Bay. The flying replica was lost in the San Diego Air & Space Museum fire in 1978.
