Displayed and signed in the Ballarat Aviation Museum as A20-502, complete with 'combat history', this aircraft is really A20-511 with a much more prosaic life story. Brought on RAAF charge on 22 January 1942, it was allocated to 5 Squadron, but passed on to 5 SFTS prior to the former unit moving overseas. Eventually allocated to CFS at East Sale as an instructional airframe, 1956-59. Disposed of an stripped for parts at West Sale - remains recovered in January 1962. Restored at Moorabbin until 1970.

What a tragedy to see this historic aircraft semi-derelict and de-registered. She was one of two 560s purchased by the Department of Civil Aviation and registered on 30 March 1959, one of the first of the new breed of post-war, high-performance light twins to come to Australia. The layout of the cockpit is original, but many instruments are replacements, as is most of the avionic equipment.

Built to a 1951 order (in the days when the USAF ordered more than 17,000 aircraft a year) and delivered in 1952 as an L-19A-CE, serial 51-12001. I don't know the exact history of this aircraft, but it seems likely that it eventually went to the R Thai AF before being 'demobbed' and exported to Australia, becoming VH-LQX on 28 August 1991. It's currently based at Essendon and owned by an Aviation Medical Examiner who uses it to fly, IFR, every Tuesday to Echuca for a clinic.

Wing walkers are what you need in a Tiger! This is actually the third Tiger Moth (& the 5th aircraft) to carry the registration VH-RVE: the other Tigers were both old Royal Victorian Aero Club machines. This particular example was built in the UK in 1941 for the RAF as T7093. Post-war it became G-AMMX and later found its way to New Zealand as ZK-BAN, before coming to Australia for a 14-year re-build.

This aircraft was built in 1938 as one of 6 model ST-A Specials for the Guatemalan Air Force. It was recovered to the USA from Guatemala in 1958. Registered N17351, it may never have flown as such. It seems to have been re-registered in 1986 as N17347. Imported to Australia in 2012 and restored as a Honduran Air Force gunnery trainer, complete with machine gun blisters, it was registered VH-SQD on 10 December 2015. Seen here at the 2016 Tyabb Airshow.
