Painted in the markings of Jimmy Doolittle's Mitchell, this is in fact 44-30854 which was the last B-25 in the USAF inventory and made the final flight of the type when ferried from Turner AFB to Eglin for preservation in May 1960. It is on loan from the National Museum of the USAF, that has its own B-25 painted to represent Doolittle's machine, which ran out of fuel after the famous raid on Tokyo from USS Hornet in April 1942. The aircraft appears to be part-way through a repaint, with only the false serial 02344 applied. No national markings yet.

Ca.3/45: TOS USAAF as B-25J. Ca.1946: Redesignated TB-25J. Ca.1954: Converted to TB-25N. By 5/60: Turner AFB, GA. Last B-25 in the Air Force inventory. 21 May 1960: Last flight; Turner AFB to Eglin AFB, FL; a ceremony held presenting the plane to Valparaiso, FL. Present was the Commander of SAC's 822nd Air Division, Commander of Eglin AFB Air Proving Ground Center and four Doolittle Tokyo Raiders. Placed on display at Doolittle Memorial Park in Niceville, FL, still marked in its bare metal USAF scheme. 1974: Donated to Air Force Armament Museum. Repainted and marked as Doolittle's aircraft.

Displayed as Doolittle raider 40-2344 lost over China when the crew bailed out after it ran out of fuel. Actual aircraft is 44-86891, sold in the civil market in 1959 as N3337G. Since the photo was taken, the museum has repainted the aircraft as Lazy Daisy Mae and with its true serial.
