Ca.1960: Stored Litchfield Park, AZ. 1962: Redesignated A-1E. 6/63: TOS USAF as 52-132649 and assigned to 1st Air Commando Sqdn, Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam. 21 Mar '65: Hit by ground fire and crashed; it caught fire and both crew killed. Retrieved by CH-54 and taken to Tan Son Nhut AFB for repair. 10 Mar '66: Maj. Bernard Fisher rescued a downed airman, for which he received the Medal of Honor. 4/66: 14th Air Commando Wing, Nha Trang. 3/67: 14th ACW returned to Pleiku. 4/67: 4410th Combat Crew Training Wing, Pleiku. 9/67: Hurlburt Field, FL; flown to NMUSAF.

On display at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. This Skyraider of 1st Air Commando Squadron was flown by Maj. Bernard F. Fisher when he rescued a fellow pilot shot down at A Shau Valley on March 10, 1966 by landing his Spad under fire and picking up the downed pilot. Maj. Fisher was awarded the Medal of Honor for the rescue.

Originally 132649 with the Navy, when the USAF took it on strength they gave it an s/n compatible with their system by adding the FY number. The NMUSAF lists it officially as 52-132649. This Skyraider was flown by Maj. Bernard Fisher on 10th March 66 to rescue another pilot shot down over South Vietnam, an action for which Fisher was awarded the Medal of Honor. The aircraft was sevely damaged in combat and came to the National Museum of the USAF in 1967 for restoration and preserveration.
