Delivered to the US Navy as R6D-1 128427 in 1952. Fitted with a VIP kit for use as the Commandant Of the Marine Corps personal aircraft. Redesignated as a VC-118B in 1962. Stored at Davis-Monthan AFB with park code 8C026 in 1982. Sold as N427D in 1986. To MCAS Cherry Point in 1992 and stored for a proposed museum which never happened. Appears to have been scrapped around 2016.

One of the last C-118s in US military service, this VIP machine is seen here at Stockholm in 1981. After some years in preservation (with civil registration N427D) and then external storage at MCAS Cherry Point, 128427 was broken up, though its fuselage is believed to exist largely intact at Marion-Zuehl airfield near San Antonio, Texas.
