First registered Nov 1933. Possibly loaned to Bouts-Tillotson Transport Ltd, t/a Bouts Airlines, Hanworth 9 May 1934 for experimental Hanworth-Barton service. Later operated by Portsmouth Southsea & IoW Aviation Ltd. Earmarked for sale to Republicans in Spanish Civil War but sale blocked. Later owned or operated by Union Founders Trust Ltd, Portsmouth; North Eastern Airways Ltd, Croydon/Doncaster and finally Air Taxis Ltd, Croydon. Impressed as X9394, 29 Mar 1940 but believed stored at Northolt where it was damaged by enemy action and SOC April 1942.

The R-3 was a two-seat trainer designed by Shiro Yoshihara. J-BEPB was flown from Tokyo to London via Siberia and then to Rome by Hosei University students Moritaka Kurimura and Ryotaro Kumakawa.
