MAL purchased this C-47 from the Indian Government which had received it from the peacetime disposal of aircraft used by the South-East Asia Command in World War II. Registered in March 1948. VH-UVB in the aftermath of a Japanese air raid on January 21, 1942. In March Salamaua and the airstrip were occupied by the Japanese army. The airstrip was won back by Australian troops in September 1943. The airstrip was abandoned after the war. The jungle has reclaimed it but the area is still pock-marked with bomb craters

The sole Avro 642/2m twin. There was also a four-engine version but again only one was built. VH-UXD was destroyed in a Japanese air raid at Salamaua on January 21, 1942.
