Circa 70 examples of the Buhl CA-3 Airsedan 3/5-seat biplane series were built in 1928/29. Two are known to survive. This CA-3E of 1929 was bought by Packard Motors and fitted with their DR-980 diesel as a demonstrator. After many years disuse it was fitted with a Wright 975 engine and reflown in 1996 by Greg Herrick's private collection.
