On display at Planes of Fame Air Museum. This sailplane was built during World War II to train cargo glider pilots. It had a single wheel instead of a skid, and the fuselage had a steel-tube structure, weighing 475 lb empty. The USAAC placed an order for 75, followed by 75 more. These were given the designation TG-4A, but the flight characteristics were quite different to those of a cargo glider. After the war, these "L-K" gliders with a 23:1 glide ratio were used to promote civilian gliding, and some were modified to achieve higher airspeeds.

On display at the Planes of Fame Air Museum. This is one of the F.2B replicas built for the 1983 film "High Road to China." None were used in the film. In WW1, the F.2A was effective by offensively using the Constantinesco synchronised forward-firing Vickers gun, with the observer acting defensively. It could outdive most German aircraft, would loop well and absorb damage. Different engines were fitted, but most F.2Bs used the 275 h.p. Falcon III. Production ended in Dec. 1926 with 4,469 Bristol Fighters built. The RAF operated these till 1932.

"Lil Bill" at Planes of Fame Museum. The military L-17 Navion started as the civilian 185hp NA145 model. It bore some resemblance to the P-51D, but had a tricycle landing gear. The USAAF became interested in 1946 and ordered 83 for observation, liaison and as trainers for ROTC, plus six as unmanned drones. Ryan Aircraft acquired manufacturing rights in 1947, delivering the L-17B and L-17C. In 1960, TUSCO acquired rights and made the L-17. By the time production ended, around 2,500 had been built.

One gets to appreciate the large size of this airworthy Lightning as the aircraft stands by itself in the 475th Fighter Group Museum hangar at Planes of Fame Air Museum, with its 52 ft. wingspan taking up a lot of space. During WW2 the aircraft was assigned to 483rd Air Base Squadron at Santa Maria, California for training. It wears the markings of P-38H "Skidoo" of 432nd FS "Clover", 475th FG "Satan's Angels" as flown by 1st Lt Perry J. Dahl in New Guinea, who ended the war with nine victories.

On display at the Planes of Fame Air Museum. This is a combat veteran that served with the U.S. Navy at NAS Dunkerque, France in 1918, flying coastal patrols and searching for U-boats. Originally built as a HD.2 seaplane, it was later converted to a HD.1 land fighter. In 1923, French ace Charles Nungesser restored and flew this aircraft. It bears his famous "Knight of Death" insignia on the side of the fuselage. Most of the French-built HD.1s served with the Belgians and Italians during World War I.

Black 2 under restoration inside the very interesting hangar at Planes of Fame Air Museum. This Buchon was built in Seville in March 1958. It was formerly flown by Ejercito del Aire as C.4K-77 till it was sold to Gp Capt T.G. "Hamish" Mahaddie of Pathfinder fame as part of 28 Buchons used for filming in the movie Battle of Britain. It was one of 21 given later to Wilson C. Edwards as payment for the flying. In 1981 it crashed at Reno during air races. It was restored to fly for the movie Pearl Harbor, suffering an undercarriage collapse in 2000 after filming.

"Mrs. Virginia", the only airworthy P-51A (NA-99) at Planes of Fame Air Museum. Powered by an Allison V-1710-81 V-12, this model was an improvement over the P-51 (NA-91) with its V-1710-39 engine. Armament was changed from the long-barrelled 20mm Hispano to four 0.50 in Browning MGs. A contract was placed for 1,200 of which 310 were built, with 50 going to the RAF before production switched to the Merlin-powered P-51B. Under Col. Phil Cochran, the P-51A served as a fighter in 1ACG in the CBI theatre.

Airworthy Fairchild 24 at Planes of Fame Air Museum. First produced in 1932 for personal and business use, the Model 24 was available with inline and radial engines. It was a popular aircraft and over two thousand were built. The sturdy undercarriage construction allowed for operation from unimproved grass airfields. Twin floats could also be fitted to the aircraft. The C8F was one of 40 built that was powered by a 145-hp Fairchild Ranger inline engine. During WW2 this aircraft served as a trainer at Coffeyville Army Air Field in Kansas.

World's only original airworthy Peashooter at Planes of Fame Air Museum. The P-26 was USAAC's first all-metal monoplane fighter aircraft. The Model 248 first flew on 20 Mar 1932 and was a blend of old and new. Compared to biplanes, the new fighter had higher takeoff and landing speeds, which did much to bring paved runways. This P-26A was flown by USAAC in the Panama Canal Zone. It was acquired in 1957 from Fuerza Aérea Guatemalteca. It wears the colors of 95th PS "Kicking Mule", 17th PG at March Field.

Inside the hangar at Planes of Fame Air Museum. This airworthy Cadet was delivered as target drone 44-21895 to the USAAF for live gunnery practice. It was radio-controlled, had a retractable landing gear and rudimentary control panel, which allowed it to be flown by a ferry pilot when required. A total of 2,043 were built, of which very few survive. Most were blasted out of the sky by AA gunners.
