Photo taken during the first flight from Egypt to India. It appears to be in what is now Pakistan, probably Karachi, although the flight continued on to Kolkata. It had been intended for an O/400 to fly from the UK to India but the initial aircraft went u/s at Heliopolis. It was then planned to fly on to Australia - the pilot was Australian Ross Smith - in 1919. However, while Smith headed off to survey a route, C9700 was commandeered by the military in India to bomb Kabul. It was wrecked in a wind storm at Risalpur before Smith returned. K2085 has been described as an Audax when in service with the Indian air Force but it was built as a Hart and operated by 11 Sqn as a Hart. As it was essentially only equipment that distinguished the day bomber Hart from the army cooperation Audax it may be it was converted during Indian service. Photo from: Norman Melrose

ABPic has a photo of this aircraft attributed to 39 Sqn. Also, looking at the badge on the tail, although very blurred, it looks more like 39's winged bomb than 11's double eagle. Repaired, K2091 went on to serve with the Indian air force. Photo from: Norman Melrose
