'President Dwight D Eisenhower arriving in USAF [sic] helicopter.' Already in 1960 presidential helicopters were apparently airlifted overseas. This is probably the headquarters of the South Korean VI army corps, which Eisenhower visited on 20 June 1960. 147179 was one of seven HUS-1Z (later VH-34D) VVIP machines. Airframe noted at Carson Helicopters, Perkasie, Pennsylvania in 2001. The second helicopter belongs to HMR-162, then based at Okinawa, and the third to the presidential unit again, HMX-1. I took this slide from a US Navy C-9B taxiing out for a flight from Seoul to NAF Atsugi, Japan. This UH-19D was delivered to the US Army on 28 February 1958, and at a later date was transferred to the Republic of Korea Air Force. This UH-19D still exists, and is on display at the Korean Aerospace Institute Museum at Sacheon Airport.
