Air Canada ordered some 29 Canadair / Bombardier RJs and took delivery of the aircraft in the mid 90s. C-FWRS was delivered on April 29, 1996. It was in the mainline fleet until 2006 when the RJs were transferred to regional partner Jazz. The aircraft was sold to leasing company Avmax in 2014 and leased to Air Georgian for Air Canada Express operations. The aircraft was returned to the lessor in 2020 when Air Georgian lost the Air Canada contract and declared bankruptcy.

According to the official accident report both pilots lost sight of each other during the turn to final while doing solo circuit training. The two aircraft became locked together and it was a small miracle that they managed to land this well while still entangled. Both pilots remained uninjured. First registered to Quebec based Anglo - Canadian Pulp and Paper in 1973. In the late 70s it was registered to civil contractor Whessell Enterprises and later operators were Canadian Concrete Products, North Americana Airlines and Shooter Aircourier until the aircraft's registration was cancelled in 1989. The airframe was later rescued from the field by Red River Community College whose aviation program is based at Winnipeg airport. Last seen parked outside with no engines.

First registered to Quebec based Anglo - Canadian Pulp and Paper in 1973. In the late 70s it was registered to civil contractor Whessell Enterprises and later operators were Canadian Concrete Products, North Americana Airlines and Shooter Aircourier until the aircraft's registration was cancelled in 1989. The airframe was later rescued from the field by Red River Community College whose aviation program is based at Winnipeg airport. Last seen parked outside with no engines.
