No longer wearing 'Arab Legion Air Force' titles. The Arab Legion was renamed the Jordanian army as per 1 March 1956. The photo was probably taken that month at Blackbushe. Ex G-AJDK of BEA, the Viking was used by King Hussein. It was replaced as the royal aircraft by a Varsity, VK-501, ex WF416, which was delivered from Eagle Aviation at Blackbushe in late 1956. The Viking fatally crashed in the Taurus mountains in Syria on 13 December 1956.

Another of my old "Brownie 127" photos. Carries "Royal Air Force Transport Command" titles plus an 'FCS'(Ferry Communication Squadron?) diamond(blue/yellow) on fin plus the Wallingford Coat of Arms behind cockpit. To 7858M and to the Colerne Museum. On the folding of the museum it went to the SAS training area at Ewyas Harold, Hereford.

First flown in May 1946 and registered to GS Sale & Co when seen here at Langley in 1950. Previously registered to the Ministry of Supply and Aircraft Production and leased to BOAC/BEA between June 1946 and February 1948, she was sold to Hunting Air Travel in May 1951 and converted to a Viking 639 Mk1. She later ended her flying career with Overseas Aviation between February 1958 and May 1961 and was broken up at Gatwick in June 1962.

This Viking was built in 1946 and flew for BEA as G-AGRW. Around 1957 it flew with the temporary RAF serial XF640 for a trooping contract as civilain aircraft were not allowed in the Suez Canal zone. It then joined Hunting-Clan, Overseas Aviation and Autair before being preserved at a cafe in the Netherlands, on the roof of the old terminal at VIE and at a McDonalds (in fake Austrian Airlines colours) nearby. Later moved to at Bad Voslau (LOAV) and stored outdoors for many years. The frame was acquired by the Blackbushe Heritage Trust and arrived at Blackbushe on 2 May 2023. It is now undergoing restoration for eventual static display.

First flew 27 July 1950. Delivered to TRE Defford 25 August 1950. Photographed while parked at Southend 20-25 August 1958. Fate unknown.

Built for British European Airways as G-AIVT but not delivered, to Iraqi Airways in January 1948 and damaged beyond repair in a wheels up landing close to Baghdad Airport in June 1949.

On 10 January 1964 G-AGRU made it last flight into EHSB to be moved to this site. The aeroplane did popularize Mr John Bouvy's restaurant, causing him to add two more Vikings in 1968. Photo from: Euro Color Cards / The Utrecht Archives

First flew 9 May 1947. Registered G-AIVC 19 Nov.1946. To BEA 16 May 1947 as 'Vernon', renamed 'Lord Collingwood' in 1951. Sold June 1954 and used serial WZ353 while operating trooping flights with Eagle. Cancelled 20 March 1957, registered D-AGAD the next day, later allocated D-BGAD (ntu), then to D-BEPO. First flight as F-BJER for Airnautic 5 Nov.1959. While en route from Gatwick to Perpignan on 11 Sept.1963, it flew into high ground at Pic de la Roquette in the Pyrenees, killing all 36 passengers and 4 crew members.

First flight 9 October 1947 as VL233. To King's Flight 25 January 1947. Registered G-APOO on 6 August 1958 to Tradair, named 'Mercia' in 1960. Registered to Channel Airways 10 January 1963. Last flight was on 18 August 1964, following which it was Withdrawn from Use at Southend and scrapped there in 1965. Registration cancelled 7 March 1969 as Permanently Withdrawn From Use.

Acquired by Autair from Overseas Aviation in January 1962 and sold as F-OCEU to Aero Sahara in May 1965. Became F-BMEU with Europe Aero Service in October 1967 and bought for use as spares by Transportes Aerions Reunis (TAR) in 1971. Withdrawn from use and broken up at Nice.

Seen at what was then Nairobi's Eastleigh Airport. Airwork's Vikings flew numerous passenger and government charters to points in Africa as well as the Middle and Far East in the late 1940s and early 1950s. From 1952 a scheduled service was established from Blackbushe to Nairobi routing via Malta, Benghazi, Wadi Halfa, Khartoum, Juba and Entebee a 3 day journey at a cost of £98! Formerly EI-ADI with Aer Lingus, the aircraft was allocated WZ356 for trooping flights whilst with Airwork and sold by them to Air Safaris in April 1960. WFU and broken up at Hurn in 1962.
