Very rare shot of this leased Jumbo, waiting to take us home after a great holiday in the Cook Islands. This aircraft was built for BA and allocated G-BDXL, but delivered straight to MAS in March 82. Ten years later it was leased to Garuda, and in 1994 to ANZ. In late 94 it was converted to a freighter and re-delivered to MASkargo in December that year. In Sept 05 it was re-registered N362FC to Focus Air, and in July 08 to TF-AAB with Air Atlanta Icelandic.

Only 60 Saltos were built in the early-to-mid 1970s. This one was registered new in Australia on 18 January 1973. It also shows the convention in Australia of only displaying the last two letters of the registration provided the sailplane is registered in the 'glider block' (VH-G__) and isn't used overseas.

This aircraft was the first Tecnam imported into Australia. When I photographed it here at Cloncurry during the Federation Airshows in the Outback, it was the importer's demonstrator (that's Bruce wiping off the wing). It had been registered on 11 August 2000 and transferred to the RAAus register as 24-3979 on 2 October 2003. Just to confuse matters, since then there have been two more Tecnams registered VH-VET!

This rare, genuine DC-2 first joined Eastern in October 1934 as NC13736. At the outbreak of the Second World War in 1941 it was acquired by the RAAF and served as A30-11 with 15 FTS and 36 Sqn. It was later painted as PH-AJU to represent the famous KLM DC-2 which made a forced landing on the Albury racecourse during the 1934 England-Australia Air Race. As you can see, it is in the process of undergoing some restoration work.

It was originally in service with 75 Squadron, but since at least 2005 has been with 2 OCU, the Hornet Conversion Unit, whose low-vis markings it carries on the fins.

The original VH-AQJ was delivered to the RAAF in 1940 as A17-26, one of the first Australian-manufactured Tigers. Post-war, civilianised and registered VH-AQJ for the Tasmanian Aero Club, Launceston, on 3 April 1946. In the mid-'50s converted to Ag Tiger. Retired Oct 1965 & stored dismantled at Parafield. Most parts used in 1973 restoration, but unfortunately aircraft destroyed in a crash Dec '79. Other parts from original were used as the basis of this Luskintyre rebuild which first flew Oct '84.

'Bomber 365' is back again for another summer on standby for bushfire-fighting duties. This year it's wearing a new colour scheme. I believe the turbine conversion was done locally using an STC'd kit to incorporate a TPE-331.

It took some sleuthing to track down the real identity of this aircraft, which is not cn 559 as the Register shows. Built by DHA Mascot to an RAF order as DX537 but diverted to the RAAF as A17-423. Acquired rebuild cn T202 along the way. Civilianised as VH-AZH with the Royal Queensland Aero Club but crashed at Archerfield 20 Sep 58. Remains stored and later rebuilt as VH-UIE, 17 Aug 95. The markings A17-25 do not relate to this aircraft's wartime identity.
