T9583 was built in Australia for the RAF in Singapore. Singapore fell to the Japanese before it could be delivered and it was delivered to the RAAF as A9-31. 100 Squadron RAF, which was the intended recipient, evolved into 100 Squadron RAAF and was deployed to Papua New Guinea. T9583 was lost in a crash landing at Port Moresby on June 25, 1942 when returning from a mission. The RAAF serial does appear to have been applied to the aircraft during its brief service. On display at RAF Museum Hendon. This aircraft is one of a number of Australian built Beauforts recovered from Tadji airstrip in Papua New Guinea. The rudder profile and undercarriage doors make it represent a Mk.IIA in the colors of No. 42 Sqn RAF. The original DD931 served with No. 5 (Middle East) Training Sqn and No. 39 Sqn based at Malta. An air launched 18-inch Mk.XII torpedo lies under the aircraft.

For a time I was the display manager at the ANAM, we have DAP built Beaufighter A8-328 on display. Painted as A8-39 the aircraft is the last Beaufighter in the world capable of running. I took this shot to highlight its sheer awesome-looking power.

The RAAF's last four Beaufighters gathered at what is believed to be RAAF Richmond where 30 (Target Towing) Sqn was based. In early 1956 the aircraft were ferried to Tocumwal. Three were scrapped there but the second aircraft in this line-up, A8-328, was donated to the Lord Mayor's camp for children at Portsea, Victoria from where it was rescued in 1962 and preserved.
