A special mission for Franeker. Thai Prince Paribatra was exiled to the Netherlands East Indies following a coup in Thailand in 1932. He died in 1944 in Bandung, then under Japanese occupation. His remains were flown back to Thailand by the KLM plane. Franeker crashed in India on 12 July 1949. Among the 45 dead were 15 American journalists who had just made a trip through the Indonesian islands, paid for by the Dutch government to convince them of the justness of Dutch colonial policy. In the mid 1990's, the N250 was an ambitious commuter aircraft project of IPTN (Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara, now Indonesian Aerospace). The 50-seat prototype N250-50 c/n PA-1 registered PK-XNG first flew on August 10, 1995, followed by the longer 2nd prototype on December 19, 1996. The project was to counter the sucessful ATR-42/72 series aircraft but unfortunately, the asian financial crisis of 1997 killed the N250 project altogether. In this 2009 picture, the 2nd prototype (64-68 seats layout) can be seen sitting abandoned on IPTN's premisis in Bandung, Java.

In 1995, it went to Indonesia and was operated by the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) as from 1998, after having carried the Indonesian test registration AX-5004 during work carried out at IPTN in Bandung. PK-SAU was the first of two W-4s, designed by Dutch engineer Laurens Walraven and built by him and army air force personnel at Bandung-Andir airfield as it was then known. The other W-4 was PK-SAI.
