There were two Q.6s allocated VH-ABL - Q.25 and Q.34. Neither was taken up. Q.25 had fixed gear initially. Retractable u/c later fitted but an accident five days after the first flight saw fixed gear refitted. It may have had test serial X-1 at this time. Q.34 was built with retractable undercarriage and according to historian Geoff Goodall, was test flown painted as VH-ABL. It would be delivered to the RAF as P5638. Msn Q.34 has been used for this photo as it is known it flew as VH-ABL with retractable gear. That is not known about Q.25. Photo from: National Museum Australia

To get extra life out of the inadequate Roc fighter, floats were fitted with the aim of producing a target tug to replace Blackburn Shark floatplanes used in the role by the FAA. L3059 was the prototype. It showed instability and was wrecked in an accident at the Helensburgh Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment in December 1939. A second conversion with an enlarged ventral fin was completed but its performance was poor. The FAA ended up replacing its Shark target tugs with landplanes. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

Imported into Australia as G-AUHZ in September of 1928 for Aircrafts Pty Ltd. Crashed a fortnight after it was registered. The wreckage was sold to Messrs. N. D. Hagerty and A.H. Williams and rebuilt by QANTAS in Longreach, QLD. A new C of A was issued in 1933. In May 1939 it passed to M.M.Castle of Bundaberg, Qld, where this photo was taken. However, he sold it September of that year to an owner in Sydney. Written off on 3 February 1941 when it caught fire in the air and forced landed at Byrock, NSW. Info from the Ed Coates Collection. F-AJAI flew in the Middle East with Air France and the Société des Transports du Proche-Orient (STPO). In 1937 it was bought by Capt Georges Goumin, who served at Rayak in Lebanon. Goumin was recalled to France in 1938 and led a group of pilots escaping to England in 1940. Wearing the cream and orange colours of STPO with the logo of the Aéro-Club Maurice Noguès in Damascus, F-AJAI is seen during a trip to Luxor. The pilot here may still be Goumin, even if the given 1939 date is correct, according to researcher Michel Barrière. Registration allegedly stricken in April 1939. In 1942 the aircraft served with the Free French forces as FL-AUM. Photo from: Gérald Garitan

The second Grumman Goose, owned by Henry Morgan, one of ten affluent Long Island businessmen who requested the design of the G-21. Morgan's wife and friends made a trip all the way to Texas in the aircraft. Like other early Geese it was acquired by the Canadian air force in 1940. Blenheim I K7072 was converted to the Blenheim IV prototype with a longer nose and first flown as such on 24 September 1937. This photo is said to be from 1939 and we think it may have been taken in Canada where K7072 was sent as a pattern aircraft for the Canadian-built Bolingbroke. The Blenheim IV had been named Bolingbroke initially in Britain. Photo from: Life

The Potez 63 in its basic form was a three-seat fighter, crewed by a pilot, a gunner and a commander who was supposed to direct formations of single-seat fighters. The initial Potez 630 version suffered from unreliable Hispano-Suiza 14Ab engines and was relegated to training duties.
