The CG-4A was first delivered to the Glider Pilot Regiment in 1943 and, although the larger Horsa was preferred, used throughout the remainder of WWII. This exhibit is based around an original CG-4 frame that was obtained by the MoAF from France in 1985.

The Kirby Kite was developed in the 1930s as a civilian sport glider. Upon the outbreak of WWII almost all Kits were impressed into military service by the RAF. A Kirby Kite was also used in 1940 radar detection trials to discover if wooden gliders (aircraft) could be detected by coastal early warning systems. This glider was previously allocated the registration G-ALNH.

The Bird Dog was developed in the late 1940 as an obervation and liason aeroplane for the US Army. The type was flown by UK Army pilots during the Korean War in support of ground troops and was, in fact, preferred by many British officers to the Auster Mk.9. The US Army presented this example to the MoAF in 1982.

This is a pre-production Lynx and has the claim to fame in that it was the first helicopter to do a barrel roll. This was enabled by the innovative rotor head design that even allowed it to fly backwards at up to 80 mph. XX153 was used for training, air shows and equipment trials before being restored to static display standard by trainees at Westland Helicopters.

The Skeeter was the first helicopter to serve with the UK Army. The type had many problems and shortcomings, however, it proved how useful helicopters could be. This example entered service in 1959 and flew for the Army in West Germany.

On 13th September 1989, immediately after take off from Netheravon, Wiltshire the port cyclic servo jack failed causing the nose to pitch up and the tail rotor to strike the ground. The nose then pitched down and the aircraft rotated into the ground. Fortunately, the three passengers and the pilot were uninjured. The helicopter was deemed to be beyond economic repair and stored at Wroughton until allocated for ground instruction at the Army's School of Electrical and Aeronautical Engineering at EGVP. It was later rebuilt to static display standards, and is now a gate-guard for the museum.

This Huey was operated by the 601 Combat Aviation Battalion and was one of six deployed to the Falklands prior to the war. Upon capture, AE-409, AE-413 and AE-422 in were used by the British Army to ferry freight and deliver mail around the islands. The first two were painted white by the Argentinians for use in casualty evacuation and AE-409 still retains this white colour as it is now on display at this very interesting museum.

This Beaver is actually a composite of XP822 and XP815. XP822 was delivered to the RAF in November 1961 but crashed in September 1970 during take-off at Sharjah. XP815 was written-off at Vólos, Greece in September 1962 when the top window sunblind fell down over pilots face during take-off, causing a loss of vision and subsequent crash. Parts of both airframes were used to reconstruct this airframe, now on display outside the Museum of Army Flying.

Delivered to the AAC in 1961 and served in the Far East, initially based at Seletar and later in Borneo, where in January 1966 it inverted on landing, caused by passenger having their feet on the toe brakes. Recovered by a Wessex helicopter. Loaned to Foreign & Commonwealth Office at Vientiane in 1975 in this white scheme to show neutrality in the war then raging in Laos. This however did not save it from coming under fire while flying up the Mekong River when a Russian-made RPG-7 missile passed through the port wing, just missing a fuel line. To museum in 1985.
