Dakota built as 43-48351 for the RAF to be KJ828, it was diverted to the RCAF instead as KG828 (later 12948). Withdrawn in 1971, the aircraft was bought by Aero Trades Western / Soundair in 1976 and registered C-GCXD. Damaged in a take-off accident with Aviation Boreal on March 23 1995, the aircraft was stored Val D-Or, QC then moved to Red Deer, AB. Sold to Basler Turbo registered as N856LT in Sep 2018, it delivered by truck still painted C-GCXD.

This 1964 Beech 18 was in the fleet of Sherritt-Gordon Air Transport between 1972 - 1985. The airline was the transport division of Sherritt-Gordon Mining, operating a nickel mine in Lynn Lake, MB. The aircraft went to the USA as N45GM in 1985, but unfortunately was written off on February 9, 2007. It crashed during an ILS approach to Great Bend, KS while flying freight.

Exported to the USA in February 1984 as N996SA for Mountain Air Cargo, it unfortunately crashed into trees on approach to Charlotte, NC January 19, 1988.

This Expeditor was used in mineral surveys by Sherritt-Gordon Gold Mines Ltd in Northern Manitoba. It had nine pods fitted to it for a magnetometer cable loop. John Caswell flew it and he shared this photo with me several years ago. He is the man on the right. Sadly, John passed away in Dec 2021. Built in 1987 for Presidential Express and here operated by Advanced Air Ambulance of Toronto. Cancelled on export to Honduras in 2014. The ridge on the lower fuselage is probably a shroud covering pipes from fire extinguisher bottles behind the pressure bulkhead leading to the baggage pod. The requirement to have this was made mandatory because of the ValuJet DC-9 oxygen generator baggage compartment fire in 1996.

The practice of applying the registration in small black letters on red (here just below the two rear windows) started when the airline name changed from Trans Canada Airlines circa 1967. I once asked a long term management employee why this was so since it was in contravention of regulations calling for them to be 'high contrast'. With typical arrogance of the time he said they went by the fleet number (in white) which was more important than any Transport Canada registration. Wow!
