Sikorsky HSS-1N Seabat BuNo 148938 photographed on display at Kirtland AFB. It was retired by the US Navy to MASDC, (as it then was), at Tucson in 1974 but was later re-issued to the USAF as an UH-34J, hence its presence in this museum.

Built for the US Navy as CH-34C 150763 in 1962. Delivered to the West German Army as QB+484, then PZ+007, PZ+349, and 8076 in 1967. Returned to Sikorsky as N82835 around 1970. Registered as D-HBWR and converted to an S-58ET around 1975. To Aris Helicopters as N15AH in 1986. Destroyed in crash at Miraleste Intermediate School, Rancho Palos Verdes CA, in 2003.

In 1985, Chevron operated the last Sikorsky S-58ET and Sikorsky S-62A helicopters supporting offshore oil and gas exploration and production in the Gulf of Mexico. This S-58ET, N1168U, was sold new to the French Armee de l Air. Sikorsky converted it to a P&WC PT6T twin turbine in the 1970s. It was photographed at Chevron's Bayou Boeuf Heliport and seaplane base with a Bell 206B and S-62A. The heliport was in Amelia, 8 km E of Morgan City and 1 km S of the PHI Lake Palourde Heliport next to the St. Andrews Cemetery. Sold to Aris Helicopters in California in 1985 and later flown by Heli-Flite.

Delivered new from Sikorsky to the French Armee de l'Air in 1956, this S-58 was purchased surplus by Sikorsky in the early 1970s and converted to a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T twin turbine S-58ET registered N1144U. It flew with Heli-Swiss between April 1972 and July 1983 (including on lease to Heli Union and Heliservice). It was imported to the US by Air Associates as N39790 and sold to Aris Helicopter's as N58AH still wearing the Heli-Swiss colour scheme in July 1984. It was registered to B&B Helos Llc in April 2009, but operates as Aris Helicopters, a Division of Heli Flite, Inc.

Built in 1957 as HSS-1 Seabat Bu143920. Struck off charge in March 1972 as a UH-34J and sold to civil market as N33EA. Converted to S-58T in 1973, to CF-KGO, OB-T-1041 and N439DS before becoming C-GUSD in 1983. Returned to N439DS in 1987 and cancelled from US register in November 2000.

Photo must have been taken on 12 July 1957, the day of the first US presidential flight in a helicopter in a simulated evacuation of the government to Camp David. Eisenhower took off from the South Lawn of the White House in a Bell H-13J, chosen for the type's safety record. Six H-19, H-21 and HUS-1 helicopters operated from The Ellipse. 'President Dwight D Eisenhower arriving in USAF [sic] helicopter.' Already in 1960 presidential helicopters were apparently airlifted overseas. This is probably the headquarters of the South Korean VI army corps, which Eisenhower visited on 20 June 1960. 147179 was one of seven HUS-1Z (later VH-34D) VVIP machines. Originally designated as an HUS-1G Seahorse, this United States Coast Guard version of the HUS-1 was re-designated HH-34F in 1962.

This S-58 was built in Bridgeport, CT. in 1968 and transported by ship to Belgium for Sabena as OO-SHI. In May 1963 it was TOC by the FABe as B-11 (B11). By October 1976 the frame had been SOC and was assigned to Koksijde for storage. At the end of the 1970 it operated for Meravo Luftreederei Fluggesellschaft MBH, Oedheim as D-HAUF but now hangs from the roof of Hall 2 at the Technik Museum Sinsheim.

During the late 1950s this Sikorsky was active for Sabena. That is the reason she is now painted in this color scheme. The full registration is only painted on port-side. After flying for Sabena this Sikorsky was taken over by the Belgian Air Force as B-12. From 1978 till 1984 she was active for Meravo Helicopters as D-HAUD and after withdrawn from use displayed on Frankfurt airport observation deck for many years.
