Delivered to Delta Air Lines as CV340 N4814C in 1953. Later converted to a CV440. To other operators after 1970. Operated for Dow Jones & Co by Florida Aircraft Leasing from 1977. Had an engine fire at Greenboro, NC in 1982 and possibly withdrawn from use at Fort Lauderdale as a result. Scrapped there in 1988. Nose only by 1989.

Its best years are behind it, Convair 440 HH-OMA was found near the eastern threshold of Port-au-Prince airport and provided a welcome sunshelter for workers in the area of the UN logistics compound.

This abandoned Convair is hiding in a remote corner of the airport of Morelia, near the end of the runway. An unpaved path leads to this airplane. It can also be clearly seen from highway 48-D, but not from the airport terminal. Google Earth shows the airplane painted in bright colors but these have faded or have been washed away in the Mexican climate. What now remains is a decorative cover that looks like urban-graffiti. If you look closely you can still read the registration XB-GNM on the tail and dorsal fin. Also note the very faded "Cariboo" titles on the fuselage, from its time with North Cariboo Flying Service as C-GRWW in the early and mid 1980s.

Originally built as a Convair 340-48 in 1954, this Convair was later converted to -440 standard. In its final years, it operated for three different airlines from Venezuela - Rutaca, Tecnofly, and Aero Ejecutivos. The later withdraw it at Caracas, where it was broken up after 2000.

Slide scan from the NK collection. - Two years prior to the visit to Munich-Riem, N5DG had been acquired from the Luftwaffe, where it was registered as 12-01. Luftwaffe's colours are still visible, as well as the "01" in the tail. After a couple of operators in the US, the Convair was retired at Islip NY as N24AT and broken up after 1993.
