This former Ukrainian Air Force L-39C (active in Ukraine since 1984, first with the Soviet AF), like many others, was sold to a private owner in the USA in 2006. It received the awesome "black bunny" colourscheme that VX-4 and VX-9 applied to some of their Phantoms and Tomcats since 1969 (the colourscheme officially is called "Vandy One"). Instead of the BuNo, this L-39C has its c/n. Splendid!

The 33rd Phantom was built as a F4H-1F in 1960 for the USN with serial 148261. It was redesignated F-4A in 1962 and written off on 16 October 1964 while operating with VF-101. The aircraft caught fire when the nose gear collapsed duing landing at NAS Key West. By 1983, it had been restored and placed at the NAS Oceana main gate. The F-4A has had dfferent colourschemes and fake serials. It is seen here representing F-4B 152249 of VF-143. On the other side, it represents 152295/AB-200 of VF-32.

This Panther in fact is 123612, correctly marked as F9F-2. It was painted to represent 141099 in VF-81 Waldoman markings, which in fact was a F9F-8. VF-81 only very briefly operated the Panther, from February 1953 until April 1954. This aircraft has been guarding the NAS Oceana gate since 1984 and has been repainted several times in a new colourscheme wearing different unit markings and, as indicated, different serial numbers.

This former VA-122 Trojan was used for weapons training (target spotting) at NAS Lemoore from 1969 until 1972. It still wears their colours and markings. It was stored at NAS Norfolk from 1972 until 1976, and at MASDC/Davis Monthan from 1976 until it was sold in 1990. Since then, it is flying as N65491. It survived an accident on 21 May 2005 when the nose landing gear collapsed on landing at Franklin Municipal Airport.

This is a confusing Banshee for two reasons. First, because the BuNo on the aircraft has been painted as '127639' although this in fact is 127693. Second, because it is marked as a 'F2H-3' while in fact this is a F2H-4.

This is a license-built Goodyear FG-1D , which is similar to the Vought F4U-1D. During WWII, Goodyear built 4006 Corsairs, 1997 of which were FG-1Ds. This particular aircraft was only taken up in 1945, so it may not have seen combat action. It has been painted to represent a VF-17 aircraft, the first unit to use the Jolly Rogers symbol in 1943 when operating Corsairs out of the Solomon islands. Other USN units later took over the Jolly Rogers badge, such as VF-61 and VF-84.

Although this Tiger wears Blue Angels colours, it is not entirely certain this aircraft was actually with the display team at all. The last known unit of 141864 is VF-26 in 1963. It was struck of charge in 1967 at Cherry Point, NC and then preserved at Patriots Point Museum in Charlestown, SC before moving to NAS Oceana.

This Sentinel served with air force, army and coast guard, but not with the marines, although it now carries marines markings... It was delivered as 42-15060 to the USAAF in May 1943. From 1943 until 1948 it was operated by a range of units, both army ground units and air force units (including air transport command, strategic air command). In the 1950s, the aircraft was operated by the USCG as OY-1 with serial 5060. In 1959 it was sold to the private market as N 9315H.

This Bird Dog, although carrying USAF markings, never saw service with the USAF. Although the aircraft was taken up by the USAF on 22 January 1951, it was immediately (the next day) delivered to the US Army at Fort Mason in San Francisco and subsequently shipped to Japan, to be used by the Japanese Army (JGSDF), first as H-1002, later as 11002. It remained active in Japan until the 1980s before it was shipped back to the USA and entered the private market (in 1989).
