This a/c was restored by the Save-A-Connie (SAC) organization from 1986-1988. SAC was renamed the Airline History Museum in 2000.

The 63rd Tactical Airlift Squadron was based at Selfridge AFB, Michigan. Note the outline of the state of Michigan on the vertical fin.

As this was just six months after Operation Desert Storm this was a very popular aircraft on display. Note that the last three digits of the USAF serial number are painted vertically on the front of the nose landing gear.

Delivered to USAAF in 1945. Saw combat in Korean War for two years, sold surplus in 1957. Converted into a water bomber in the U.S. (N5457V) and later used in the same role in Canada (C-GHLK). From 1990-1999 it was owned and flown by the Canadian Warplane Heritage marked as a French Air Force A-26. Transferred to the U.S. and registered as N119DR. In 2011 reregistered N4313.

Ca.1959: TOS USAF. Served as the testbed for the Pratt & Whitney TF-33 turbofan engines used on the B-52H. After the evaluation trials were complete it was restored to G configuration. By 4/89: Assigned to the 2nd Bombardment Wing, Barksdale AFB, LA. 29 Jul 92: Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ for storage.

July/45: TOS USAAF as B-29A 44-62070. April/46: Converted to TB-29. October/51 to April/52: Restored back to B-29A. April/52: 310th Bomb Wing, Smoky Hill AFB, KS. August/53: 3510th Flying Training Wing, Randolph AFB, TX. November/53: Converted to TB-29A. October/56: TOS USN; to Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, CA; used as a range target. March/71: Confederate Air Force with c/n N4249. Restored to ferry. August/71: Ferried to Harlingen, TX. By 1978: Restored using parts from three other B-29s. August/81: Re-registered as N529B. 1983: Used in the movie, "The Right Stuff" as the mother ship. 2006-2010: Full overhaul and new engines.

8/44: TOS USAAF. 10/44 Transferred to the RAF as Liberator GR.VI s/n KH191. The plane flew many combat missions in the Pacific Theater of Operations until late 1945 when it was abandoned in Khanpur, India. 1948: TOS Indian Air Force with s/n T-18. 1968: Given to the Indian Air Force Technical College in Jalahali, to be used for mechanic training. 1981: Doug Arnold/Warbirds of Great Britain. 5/82: Airfreighted disassembled by a Belfast transport plane to Blackbushe Airport, England. 1984: Doctor Robert F. Collings, and transported by ship to the USA. 6/89: Registered as N224J. 1989: Restored.

5/41: Given via Lend-Lease to the RAF as LB-30A AM927. Damage and returned to Consolidated and was used as a prototype for the C-87, with a cargo door cut in the side and operated by Consolidated for several years. 4/1/47: Registered as NL24927. 11/48: Continental Can Co. of Morristown, NJ, with c/r N1503. 4/11/59: PMEX-Petroleos Mexicanos, Mexico. 1967: Confederate Air Force, Harlingen, TX, with c/r N12905. 10/90: Re-registered as N24927.

18 May '45: TOS USAAF with s/n 44-85740 at Syracuse, NY, stored there. 7 Nov '45: Altus, OK, stripped of all military equipment. 6/46: Metal Products. 2 weeks later: Universal Aviation as NL5017N; used for aerial mapping. Successive owners reinforced the floor for hauling cattle, used for aerial photography and surveying, used for aerial application, and used for pest control and fire-fighting. 1976: WFU. 1978 Restoration to military configuration began. Ca.1982: To EAA and finished restoration. No dorsal turret yet.
