That evening I had the privilege of a scenic flight round the local area in the immaculately restored aircraft. Firing up and raring to go !! A puff of smoke from the exhausts heralds imminent departure. About to taxi out from its parking spot in the area behind Buffalo's hangar at Yellowknife Airport. In September 2015, suffered engine failure en route to Norman Wells. Unable to maintain altitude, a forced landing had to be made - intentionally wheels up - on the short gravel airstrip at Déline in very poor weather conditions. The aircraft considerably overran the runway. The crew evacuated safely, but the aircraft was written off.

Later sustained substantial damage , in November 2012, due to a left main gear collapse on landing at Yellowknife. Then in September 2015 suffered engine failure some way short of its flight destination, Norman Wells. Unable to maintain altitude, a forced belly landing had to be made on the gravel airstrip at Déline in very poor weather conditions. The aircraft considerably overran the runway. The crew evacuated safely. The aircraft was a write-off.

Delivered to the USAAF as 45-635 in 1945. Renamed to USAF in 1947. To Wheeler Airlines as CF-IQM in 1956, Nordair in 1958 and Pelly Bay Co-Operative as C-FIQM in 1975. To Aero Union as N4218S in 1981 and converted to a fire bomber then to Kenn Borek as C-FIQM in 1988. Nose damaged in an accident and stored at Calgary in 1990. To Buffalo Airways in 1992 and repaired at Tucson. Fire bombing tank removed by 2009 and used as a freighter. Stored at Hay River by 2014.
