The only surviving multi-engine German aircraft from the First World War. It was shipped to Canada as a war trophy in 1919; over the next forty years its movements were not well documented and its two 260 hp Mercedes engines were lost. The aircraft was stored in a warehouse operated by the Canadian War Museum in the 1950s. Between 1968 and 1969, it was restored by No. 6 Repair Depot, RCAF, at Trenton, and its original engines were replaced with 160 hp Mercedes engines. It was transferred to the Museum in 1970.

Year is based on Canso 11087 being repainted in wartime colours and donated to the National Aeronautical Collection where it joined the ex-RCAF Norseman in post-war 121 (K) unit colours at Rockcliffe in approximately 1964. Also the limousine looks like a mid 1960s Pontiac Parisienne.

North Star 17515 shows it is in urgent need of some TLC outside the Canada Aviation Museum at Rockcliffe in 2005.

Delivered to the RCAF as 17515 in 1948. Retired at Rockcliffe by 1971 and preserved. The only survivor of the type.

Built in 1915, this Nieuport 12 was a gift to Canada from the Government of France. Transported from France to Halifax by steamship in February 1917, the War Trophies Board exhibited the aircraft across North America as a war relic, to raise public support for the war effort. This Nieuport was the first aircraft that the Canadian government retained for its historical significance, and is one of only two known to exist worldwide. It was transferred to the Canadian War Museum in the 1930s and to this Museum in 1965. In the 1990s, the Museum restored it to appear as it would have done in 1917.

The last Argus built by Canadair is pictured out back of the National Aeronautical Collection hangar (now Canada Aviation and Space Museum). The last operational Argus flight was flown November 10, 1980 and the type retired. This aircraft made the last flight of any Argus on February 10, 1982 when it was delivered to the Museum for display. Stored outside until moved into the museum's new hangar in 2005, it has undergone some restoration to repair the damage done by weather. The aircraft is back outside, partially cocooned at the time of uploading.

Delivered to the USAF as 56-770 in 1957. To the RCAF as 12700 in 1961. Converted by Lockheed as test bed for CF-104 avionics. Transferred to National Aeronautical Collection in 1968.

Bombardier's Active Control Technology (ACT) aircraft, now on display in the museum. Carries Bombardier logo and titles on the tail.

Former USAF 57-0334. To Canada 101025 in 1971. Preserved at Rockcliffe from 1984.

Registered as N9287R in 1961 then delivered to the Canada Department of Transport as CF-DTX in 1962. Reregistered as C-FDTX after 1974. Preserved at the museum from 1986.

Twelve US Navy HS-2Ls were donated to Canada in 1919. A1876 was one of two operated by the Laurentide Paper Company on fire patrol and timber surveys. In 1920 the civil register was created and the aircraft became G-CAAC, Canada's first bush plane. Flown by Laurentide Aviation, the aircraft crashed on take-off in Ontario September 2, 1922. In 1967, the location was re-discovered and the aircraft was recovered during 1968 - 69. A sixteen year restoration using parts from G-CAAC and several other HS-Ls resulted in this only complete HS-2L left, the original nose section is displayed along side.

Transport Command aircraft

This Sea Fury has been in the Canada Aviation and Space Museum's collection for some time. Taken on Strength by the Royal Canadian Navy in 1948, it was struck off strength in 1956. It must have been stored for some time as it was bought by Bancroft Industries in 1963 and donated to the National Aeronautical Collection same year. The aircraft is pictured in the museum's reserve collection, but still viewable on guided tours.
