The NY-3 trainer was a NY with a 240-hp Wright R-760 Whirlwind engine. 20 examples were built from 1929 and mainly served with reserve units. The second aircraft is BuNo 9411, a Berliner-Joyce OJ-2 observation aircraft ordered in May 1933. It was based here at NRAB Brooklyn - better known as Floyd Bennett Field - by 1936. It survived until 1941. Only one NY trainer was still reported in service in 1939. Photo from: Life

Beautiful shot of the first production O-17 Courier of the US Army. Not a factory photo - it was taken by an Army airman. Obviously good at this, Paul Fedelchak became an official photographer in 1939. Thirty O-17s were built. The USAAC was then only small. Photo by: Paul Fedelchak / San Diego Air & Space Museum

The PT-1/PT-3 series of Consolidated primary trainers was the bridge between the Jennys and Standards of the World War I era and the later Stearman. From 1925 to 1935, most Army and Navy airmen took their primary instruction in aircraft of this family. The remains of a PT-1 were donated to the EAA in 1986 and this restoration project was completed in 1998, powered by a Continental engine. It flew for several years from Pioneer before being preserved at the museum. Listed by the FAA as a Poberezny PT-3

In 1986 the remains of a PT-1 were donated to the EAA Airventure Museum. The museum staff and volunteers went to work restoring the Trusty and it was intended that it would be flown. The PT-1 was powered by a Wright/Hispano-Suiza V-8 water-cooled engine but as spare parts for that engine were rare, it was decided to install a 220hp Continental radial engine which made it comparable in appearance with the 220hp Wright J-5 Whirlwind-powered PT-3. In 1998 the project was completed and it was registered as N31PT (still current in 2024). It flew for several years at Pioneer airport.

Photographed at the Consolidated Aircraft factory which had also been the Curtiss factory during World War I. There was no airfield at the factory and Curtiss and Consolidated used different airfields a short distance away for test flying. Both manufacturers delivered aircraft dismantled. The NY-1s were assembled at Pensacola. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland

PT-1 Trusty delivered to the USAAC in late 1926. At an unknown date it became civil as N1926M. Its last register entry was sale reported 17-May-1994. It was cancelled from the register as expired on 30-Jul-2013, probably in a register clean-up.
