When that award only allowed flights to Hawaii, this aircraft was traded back to Boeing for 727s before delivery. Eastern Airlines bought Caribair of San Juan, PR in 1973 to increase their international presence. They merged Caribair's 3 DC-9s in to the fleet. After Eastern's sudden shut down in January 1992, this DC-9 went to Servivensa in Venezuela as YV-760C. It was withdraw in 1996 and stored at Simón Bolívar International Airport, later broken up.
