The P-1 has everything that its American counterpart, the Boeing P-8, is lacking to impress: four engines, domes and a sting. ILA show number 152 is taped on a cockpit window.

The 'Jack' was intended as an interceptor to counter the threat of high-altiitude bombers and so relied on speed, climb performance and armament at the expense of manoevrability. Despite initial promise continual teething and supply problems meant they never fulfilled their potential. Of the 621 aircraft built this is the only survivor at the Planes of Fame museum.

This 'Betty' is another of the unique aeroplanes to be seen at the super Planes of Fame museum. This example was built in Nagoya Works No.3 during April 1942 and had likely crash landed sometime before mid-1944 and finally recovered from Babo Airfield, Indonesia in 1991. This wreck is the only complete 'survivor' on display of 2,435 of all variants produced.

This hulk has been relocated to Duxford while the IWM in London undergoes refurbishment. Nothing is really known about this particular airframe except that it was evaluated at the end of WWII by the Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit, hence, the scribbled initials.

This is one of 45 examples of the MXY7-K1 Ohka glider completed and used to train pilots for kamikaze attacks with the Model 11 Ohka. This training version had to be re-used and so is equipped with a landing skid and flaps. It also carried water ballast, which was expelled before landing, in place of explosives and the rocket motor. This example is now on display within the WWII Gallery at the National Museum of the USAF.

This Zero was built in 1942 and operated from the airstrip on the infamous Pacific island of Ballale (now part of the Solomon Islands). After the island was abandoned by the Japanese this and a few other aircraft were left behind and gradually overtaken by the jungle. The wrecks were recovered in 1968 and this Zero was restored (using parts of other Zeros) and is now on display at the National Naval Aviation Museum.

This Suisei (Comet - Allied reporting name 'Judy') was recovered engineless from Babo Airfield, Indonesia in 1991 and has been restored/rebuilt by the Planes of Fame Museum to a non-flying, ground-running, display condition. A non-original radial engine has been installed so as a result the cowling profile is not quite accurate. More than 2000 'Judy's were produced and only this example and one original in Japan have survived.

No Seiran (Clear sky Storm) ever saw combat but was intended to fulfill the requirement for a bomber that could operate from a submarine to strike directly at the US and strategic targets such as the Panama Canal. This is the last built as well as the only surviving airframe and is now on display at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center.

The Ohka 11 was required to be launched within 37 km (23 mi) of the target, making them very vulnerable to defending fighters. The Model 22 was designed to overcome the short standoff distance problem by using a thermojet engine, the Tsu-11. This engine was successfully tested and 50 Ohka 22s were built but never used operationally. This is the only surviving example (marked '59' aft of the blossom) and is on display at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center.

Now on display at the National Naval Aviation Museum this combat veteran George (evidenced by a bullet hole in the starboard wing) was delivered in early 1945 and tasked with defending the areas around Hiroshima. It is the most complete and authentic example of the type extant of over 400 produced during WWII.

This Zero was built in 1942 and operated from Buna airfield, PNG by the Tainan Kokutai. The right wing was torn off during a bad landing and so the remaning airframe was abandoned. After the war the hulk was shipped to Brisbane and the rear fuselage used to build a composite Zero for testing. Somehow the rear fuselage has survived and is now on display at the Planes of Fame museum.
