The Netherlands East Indies air force was the main military user of the small Lockheed 12 Electra Junior, acquiring 16 L-212 crew trainers and 20 L-12 transports. Eleven of the latter were delivered to the Royal Netherlands Military Flying School at Jackson, Mississippi following the Japanese invasion in the NEI. After the closure of the school, they were sent to the West Indies, Australia and England, and some served in the East Indies and Holland after the war. L2-40 ended up in the Indonesian air force and is said to survive at Kalijati (WIHK). Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Aircraft transferred to the Indonesian air force in 1950. Twenty years later it was donated and shipped to Holland for preservation. It is seen here in the pitch dark old hall of the former air force museum. Sister ship M-458 is in a Jakarta museum.

The NEI army air force bought eight P-6 Hawk I fighters in the USA in 1929. A second batch of eight, including this aircraft, was built by Aviolanda in Holland. Large tropical radiators were fitted. On the fuselage is the name of pilot Sgt Troost. The c/n of this aircraft is incorrectly reported as '32-276'. Photo from: Wereldmuseum

This is the real McCoy, no fake identities here. This Mitchell started life as 44-31258 with the USAAF, but was immediately delivered to the Netherlands East Indies Air Force in Sep 1945 as N5-264, which was changed to M-464 in June 1947. In Jun 1950 it was transferred to the Indonesian AF, and after serving with them for many years (using the same serial M-464) it arrived at the museum in Oct 1971.
