Registered to Mobil Oil Canada at the time and crashed as P2-OTR on 26 July 1989. Behind, scooping up carbuncle No.1, is my best friend Willy Manning who introduced me to plane spotting back in England when I was still 14. The relaxed attitude to public access in the GA area of a major international airport back then is apparent from this scene. Also there were at least 70 light single and twin piston aircraft, including a Bowers Flybaby, based there, some of which can be seen in the background.

Two Saunders ST-27s were leased to Skywest in order to provide scheduled air service from Saskatoon to Winnipeg via Yorkton/SK, Dauphin/MB and Brandon/MB as an economic development project. After the project was terminated, this aircraft went to Voyageur Airways until 1993 then it was put on display at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Sault Ste Marie/ON

I have a poor quality print of this as Heron CN-MAA taken at Hatfield in the 1960s. Here, after conversion to ST-27, it has just returned from Tropic Air before reverting to C-FHMQ for Air Atonabee. Later it went to City Express before being retired in 1989.

Ontario based On Air Limited have left little trace on the Internet. This may have been their only aircraft and it was operated in the north-west part of the province to places like Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay and Dryden where it was damaged in a 1977 fire. This has to be the first of the long fuselage Merlin/Metro II family and here visiting Perimeter Aviation while on a sales tour. Early Merlin IV are notable in that they have round windows. Later they had the 'curvy rectangular' ones as per the Metro II for production commonality. The registration N5291M was later used on c/n TC-202E and maybe it is this same airframe as the 'E' indicates a switch from Merlin to Metro on the line. Since TC-001E would have looked odd plus it would need major work to change the windows, maybe they went to the later number '202'. Just a theory.

This used to be a fixture at LFPN when registered to Christian Dior and I saw it there as such in 1964. By this time it was based in Michigan, then converted to turbine in 1972. From 1980 to 1983 it flew with Air BC as C-GHUM and current in 2021 as VH-PPT.
