Not that common to have two Merch' on the ramp at EMA in the daylight. They usually spending their days parked up at Zurich, Belfast and Glasgow. The aircraft are G-APEP and G-APEK. G-APEP To British Airways on 13 Dec 1961 as a Vanguard 953 and was converted to a Merchantman in Mar 1971. Sold to Air Bridge Carriers 08 Nov 1979. Renamed Hunting Cargo Airlines by 15 Aug 1992. Preserved at the Brooklands Museum since 17 Oct 1996. G-APEK To British Airways 16 Sep 1961 as a Vanguard 953 and converted to a Merchantman Feb 1970. To Air Bridge Carriers 05 Nov 1979. WFU at EMA 1990 later broken up.

Owned by Rolls Royce and seen at East Midlands where I believe she was based. Built in 1944 and delivered to the RAF as RM689. Acquired by Rolls Royce as G-ALGT on 09 Feb 1949. Crashed on 22 Jun 1992 but rebuilt back to flying condition. PWFU 14 Sep 2023.

An unusual visitor to EMA. Possibly a weather diversion from BHX ? In the back ground is an Orion Airways B737-200 and a British Midland Airways Viscount 800. New to KLM on 21 May 1968 as PH-DNO. Sold to Evergreen International as N941F on 11 Jan 1989. To IPEC Aviation on 01 Dec 1989 as VH-IPC. Leased to Independent Air Freight on 03 Apr 1993. Back to Evergreen as N941F on 08 Feb 1999. Sold to Aeronaves TSM of Mexico on 14 Apr 2011 as XA-DHL. Still current in 2023.

Nice old lady on a visit to EMA. I have been lucky enough to see 6 different 'Twin Pins' Built for the RAF in 1960 as a Twin Pioneer CC2. First flight 28 Nov 1960 and delivered on 01 Mar 1961. Sold onto the UK civil register as G-AZHJ on 20 Oct 1971. WFU 23 Jul 1997. To storage and used as a spares source by the Classic Air Force. Moved to the South Wales Aviation Museum, Saint Athan Airport on 12 Nov 2020.

Seen on a very grey day at East Midlands. Delivered new as N25SB in Jul 1984. To Indonesia as PK-CTP in Aug 1990. Back to the US as N99WJ on 03 Apr 1998. To the Aruban register as P4-AEA on 14 Jul 2005. Back to the US as N17LK on 04 Apr 2007 and still current in 2023.

Written Off 08 Mar 1994 at Delhi after hitting an IL-86 on landing.

Seen visiting East Midlands on a cold winters day. Operated by the Royal Aircraft Establishment and based at Thurleigh near Bedford.. First flight 11 Dec 1958 as G-APDF. Delivered to BOAC on 31 Dec 1958. To the MOD as XV814 on 01 Mar 1967 and operated by the RAE. Scrapped Aug 1997 at Boscombe Down. The nose has been preserved.

To Branson Air in South Africa as ZS-GAV Sep 2007. Finally registered to TR-DAL on 25 Nov 2010 with Nationale Regionale Transport of Gabon. Last noted 24 Dec 2012 and since scrapped.

Weather diversion day at EMA. This one from Heathrow. Delivered new to BOAC on 28 Feb 1971. Merged into British Airways 01 Apr 1974. This aircraft met a sad end. On 02 Aug 1990 she was operating BA149 to Kuala Lumpur with scheduled stops at Kuwait and Madras. Unfortunately her arrival in Kuwait coincided with the Iraqi invasion. The passengers and crew were taken prisoner and a number were later used as human shields at key locations by the Iraqi forces. The aircraft was destroyed at the airport. Dates being reported as 18 or 27 Feb 1991.

Sold to Columbia Italy as I-ZERC 10 Mar 1984. Leased to Aligulia Oct 1985 to Jun 1986. WFU and stored EMA Aug 1986. Bought by Channel Express Jul 1987 and reregistered G-CEXP 29 Oct 1987. WFU and placed on display at Gatwick Mar 1996. By 25 Aug 2006 seen near the runway at Gatwick used as a fire trainer. Broken up Oct 2022.
